Smoky leather aromas and flavors pervade the black cherry in this dense, muscular Charmes. Powerful and supported by robust tannins, but comes together on the sweet, long-lasting finish. More about terroir than the grape. Best from 2012 through 2025. 100 cases made. (Wine Spectator, 96 Pts.)

Ruby-red. Deep aromas of black cherry, minerals and licorice. Big and chewy, with brooding black fruit flavors. Currently showing more power than refinement. Dominated today by its rather tough structure. (ST) (beginning with the 2003, this cuvee will be bottled as Mazoyeres-Chambertin)  (Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, March 2004, 89-92 Pts.)

This has not yet absorbed its oak and the nose is almost presently dominated by it as the expressive aromas of crushed raspberry and earth fight to get through. The complex, intense, rich and somewhat reserved middle weight flavors that are finely structured, delicious and impressively persistent and while it appears that there is sufficient density for the wood to successfully integrate, my score offers the benefit of the doubt that it will after 5 to 7 years in bottle. (Allen Meadows, Burghound, January 2005, 91 Pts.)
