The natural rosewood clour of this whisky is borne of maturation in a European oak refill cask. The nose exudes rich chocolate, orange, raisins, custard, sandalwood and cinnamon/cloves, with a touch of wood smoke. Abundant wood spices envelope the taste, with blackcurrant, softer citrus fruits and a hint of peat, leading to a lingering finish of fruit and spices. A single puncheon, filled on 18th July 1974, was selected as the best current expression of this year. Bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration, this whisky derives all of its colour naturally from 30 years in the cask.
